LAS
VEGAS ? January 21,
2003 ? Responding to the growing demand for affordable,
long-lasting exterior components, Woodgrain Millwork, Inc. has
introduced ResistaÔ
? an exterior grade, treated wood composite material designed for
door frames, brick mould and continuous header systems.
Fruitland,
Idaho-based Woodgrain Millwork, one of the nation?s largest
manufacturers of products for the millwork industry, debuted the new
Resista product at the 2003 International Builders? Show January
21-24.
Resista
is created through a patented, steam injection process that
incorporates wood fibers, resins for moisture resistance, and a wood
preservative that protects against white and brown rot decay fungi,
as well as termite damage.
It
is an effective alternative to finger-jointed pine, particularly in
coastal regions, areas of high humidity, and communities prone to
termite infestations. Plus,
Woodgrain backs Resista with a 25-year warranty against rot and
termite damage.
Unlike
extruded PVC, Resista is produced as a solid piece with uniform
density and consistency and has no size or profile limitations.
As a composite, it contains no knots or defects commonly
found in wood, resulting in virtually no job site waste. The smooth-surfaced material effectively resists checking,
cupping, splitting, cracking or warping, and it can be installed
using traditional fasteners.
Resista
components are produced from Extira? Treated Exterior Composite
panels, a next-generation, wood composite manufactured by
Chicago-based CMI. A
stand-alone company, CMI is jointly owned by the principals of
Woodgrain and T.M. Cobb Companies.
?Very
often today, the only exterior components on a home that are not
protected from moisture penetration, rot and termite damage are the
door frames and brick mould, which typically are made of wood,?
explained Mike Ball, vice president ? millwork division, Woodgrain
Millwork. ?With
Resista, we can now meet the demand for cost-effective, easy-to-use,
rot-resistant materials.?
In
independent testing, Resista outperformed finger-jointed pine in key
performance categories, including nail withdrawal, hinge load pull,
water absorption and thickness swell.
Also,
with Woodgrain?s thermoset priming system, Resista offers superior
paint hold compared to finger-jointed, primed wood products.
Woodgrain Millwork is a leading producer of
mouldings, windows and the largest manufacturer of interior pine
doors in the country. With
seven divisions and more than 20 manufacturing and warehouse
facilities in the United States and South America, the company
